First Misty gives us Cornerstone (Book 1)
Nalena Maxwell has been branded ‘The Waste’ at her new school, due to her mom's obsessive paper hoarding. Nalena desperately wants something to change in her life, but when she receives a sign (and it's the wrong dang one) inviting her into a mysterious, ancient community, too much changes. What she knew of her family, what she thought of her life and what she believed about her future, is no longer applicable. Seventeen years worth of family skeletons come crashing into Nalena's life and it is the boy...the one that smiles at her like he wants to hear everything she'll ever say...that already knows her powerful secrets. But it is only Nalena that can choose between protecting the life that is already crumbling beneath her feet and the one that might sacrifice everything she could ever have

Then she gives us Keystone (book 2)

There’s a man-made storm coming, like a rip in the world, and it’s called the Cusp.
Struggling to fit into the destiny she’s accepted, Nalena Maxwell has been left with one objective: she must find her murdered grandfather’s Memory. Stolen and hidden away by her own father over seventeen years ago, the Memory could be the key to ending the Cusp and destroying the Ianua’s rival community, The Fury. Driven by each individual’s selfish desires, The Fury has always lacked the loyalty and organization it needs to be an actual force of power. Until now.
Someone masterminded the Fury’s massive attack on the Ianua, slaughtering twelve of their thirteen community leaders, the Addos. Now there are rumors that the 13th Cura, to which Nali belongs, has gone to the Fury, manipulating the last Addo in order to control the other 12 Curas. As the Cusp brings the Fury and their own communities against them, Nalena’s Cura must preserve the Ianua, but finding the key to the Cusp isn’t as simple as it seems

A second ago, Nalena opened her eyes. And she was safe in Garrett’s arms.
Then it all comes rushing back—the riots, The Fury, the Cusp. The Ianua community is in a major jam. Forced into survival mode, the Ianua are holed up in the fortress of the Hotel Celare. Each Cura’s top-ranking members have gathered to guard the last remaining Addo, as the entire community also scrambles to trust one another and organize a new game plan to overthrow The Fury. The trick is to keep the human race alive. But The Fury’s game has changed. They have a Mastermind at the helm and he is out to destroy the Ianua. Terrifying and brilliant, this mysterious Mastermind has organized and focused The Fury like never before. He has recruited the Simple and unleashed the Cusp’s wide-spread chaos all around the world.  And behind the scenes of this big picture, Nalena and everyone around her are busy trying to keep up, while also absorbing the rapid-fire aftershocks of their changing lives. There are traitors everywhere.
While The Cusp is expected to bring twists and turns, Nalena and Garrett never expected it to throw a silverware-drawer full of forks into the road. Each path tests their loyalty and their faith and makes them question who is who.
Including themselves.
And each other.
And in the end, some things, you can never see coming.

Looking to know more about this Fabulous Author? Here's an interview with Misty

Derinda) Misty, as a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Misty) I planned to be the girl version of Robert Frost.  I wrote book after book of poetry, starting at the point that someone showed me how to work a pencil, and I finally got it out of my system by the end of high school.  I should’ve realized back then, I was writing so much poetry because I was supposed to string it all together.  I was meant to write novels!

Derinda) Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
Misty)  Google + I can’t stop wondering.  But, you know, it works for me.  I’ve got notebooks and computers and moleskins jammed with my wonderings and they come from everywhere.  The CORNERSTONE Series came up from a dream.  HALE MAREE came out of a discussion about desperate measures.  MERCY, A GARGOYLE STORY was the medicine I used to write my way out of a rough depression.  Oh, and if I need facts, I’m a relentless Googler.

Derinda) What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating any of your books?
Misty) Faith.  I’ll get to some points in a story where I stand back and say, “Oh, there.  I did it now for sure.  I wrote myself into a corner and I’m stuck.”   I always give myself a moment of self pity to eat peanut butter and then I say, “Nah, it’ll come to me.”  And then I wait for it.  I make collages and wonder about other things, make new covers and search for awesome music and SHAZAM.  It usually happens in the shower and sends me skidding across the kitchen floor to my computer.

Derinda) What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
Misty)  I don’t know if I have one and now I feel gyped.  It would be fabulous to have a quirk.  Maybe I do and just can’t see it because I think my quirks are normal?  Now I’m going to wonder on it all afternoon.

Derinda)  How did you feel when you got your first 5 star review?
Misty)  I felt like I was finally useful.  I want to give people stories that make them happy or thoughtful or…something more.  The 5 star reviews make me feel like I’ve succeeded.

Derinda) How do you handle when you get a “not so great” review?
Misty)  There are days.  Most of the time, I don’t read the reviews.  But some days, I do. But I’m good at recognizing that if I have 50 positive reviews and 3 negative ones, then I can’t assume the minority is right.  I don’t put a lot of weight on the criticism I receive, unless it rings true.
But there are some days that I have read the reviews, trying to see where I need improving- did I miss something, did I not hit a point hard enough, why couldn’t I bring this person some joy?  But it usually comes back to the same thing: if I smile at ten people I pass on the street, it’s normal that generally less than 8 will smile back.  Some folks just don’t get me or my message.  So, I hope the folks who don’t get me can find their smiles somewhere else.

Derinda) Is there a message in your novel/novels that you want readers to grasp?
Msity)  We’re all human.  Understand.  Forgive.  Accept.  There’s a bigger world beyond our own belly buttons.

Derinda) What was the inspiration for Mercy?
Misty)  Oh, Mercy me.  I had had some professional setbacks that I allowed to affect me too much.  I whirled down into a rough time and the world just seemed to be this place I couldn’t touch anymore.  MERCY is the story of that- finding mercy and forgiving yourself for falling on your own face, picking yourself up and moving on with what is ahead.

Derinda) What books have most influenced your life most?
Misty)  Many many.  Tortilla Flat and The Wayward Bus by Steinbeck (one for the humanitarian aspect and one for the absolutely gorgeous, enchanting, mesmerizing, incredible gift of writing that Steinbeck had);  The Jungle by Upton Sinclair (shiver);  Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews (the story scared me to pieces and the writing enchanted me);  Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beacher Stowe (open your eyes);  The Color Purple by Alice Walker (inspired)…I could do this for days, Derinda…

Derinda) If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in any of your books?
Misty) Those books aren’t released because they ARE being changed!  Haha!  It’s like you’re a mind reader!

Derinda) What was the hardest part of writing your books?
Misty)  At first, it was time.  I wrote, seriously, every spare second I had.  At night, on breaks, all weekend long.  Then, when I started putting books out, the hardest thing was to get everyone else out of my head.  I just can’t write with everyone staring at my pencil like that, you know?  But nowadays, the hardest part is my own expectations- I’ve got to get out of my own way.

Derinda) Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Misty)  Thank you. Thank you for reading and for reviewing the books and for coming to find me on FB and Twitter, my blog and Goodreads to let me know what you think.  I am absolutely touched.
Facebook   Twitter    Goodreads    Amazon

Derinda) What were the challenges (research, literary, psychological, and logistical) in bringing your characters to life?
Misty)  Madeline, from MERCY, was hard to write after a while.  She has a lot of challenges I’ve never had to face, so it was difficult to keep standing in her shoes.  FULL OF GRACE has been exciting and uber challenging, because it’s told from Landon’s point of view.  I can’t really be the man I need to be, in order to write it that is, so that’s been an exciting challenge.

Derinda) What masterpiece are you working on now?
Misty)  I’m currently working on FULL OF GRACE, the companion book to HALE MAREE.  It’s the story of Landon and Sher, the besties of Oscar and Hale.  Told from Landon’s point of view, this one’s funny and sexy and I hope it gives the man’s perspective on the issues involved.

Derinda) Who is your favorite hero/heroine/character from your own books? What about of all time?
Misty)  That’s like choosing children, Derinda!  Every character is my favorite the moment I’m writing them!

Derinda) If you could pick one author (dead or alive) to have dinner with, who would it be?  What would be the first thing you would say to them?
Misty)  Do you think I’d have any other answer in my vocabulary but Steinbeck?  I don't know what would be the first thing I’d say to him, but I have an idea of the first thing he'd say to me.  It’d be something like, “We can converse more easily, I think, if you weren't sitting in my lap, touching my face.”
Derinda) hahahahaha...

Derinda) When you’re not writing AMAZING masterpieces, what is your most favorite thing in the world to do?
Msity  I'm never not writing because this is my favorite thing in the world to do!  I spend my time buying new office supplies to make new notes, playing with plot lines and trying to figure out how to be a plotter.  I get a charge out of finding new music that fits my plot lines and I can spend hours making collages of characters.

MISTY'S FAVORITES:
Color?  Rainbow
Food?  Peanut butter.  We don’t have to go any further.  You just figured me out.  Peanut butter is my lock and key.
Song/Singer?  All the ones that use their voices.

Tell me the first word that comes to mind when you think of the following;
Romance:  Yes
Love:  Peanut butter.  Hahahaha- I’m still stuck on peanut butter.
Swoon:  Goon.  It rhymes but it’s kind of sad that that’s what came to mind first.  Sigh.
Reading:  Worlds.
